Surfside Condo Collapse Townhall

August 21, 2021 – Las Vegas, NV. Mr. Browning along with other industry leaders chaired a Community Associations Institute (CAI) Townhall meeting during CAI’s 2021 Annual Conference at Caesar’s Forum in Las Vegas. In the wake of the condominium collapse tragedy, CAI martialed together a taskforce of industry professionals to consider CAI’s response to this tragic event. Mr. Browning was invited to co-chair the Reserve taskforce. CAI also called structural building inspectors, attorneys, and insurance professionals to head up responses from their respective industries. Over a series of several weeks, hundreds of CAI Reserve Specialists (RS) held large virtual meetings to develop a response. The Townhall was an opportunity to share the taskforce’s consensus and to solicit input from other CAI members. Taskforce recommendations will be forwarded to CAI leadership so that effective policies can be adopted. Those policies will be instrumental to legislative efforts led by CAI. The general reserve consensus includes a Reserve Study requirement with no mechanism to opt out of funding.
